This is a first of 4 maps covering roads I’ve ridden hundreds to thousands of times. I’m lucky; they’re out my front door and I’ve lived long enough to do it pretty well.
The loops on this map are not long enough for “real” riders but for most of the bike riders I see on the road, and the legions I don’t, these are perfect distances for the easy and hard exercise the road bike offers with plenty of energy left over to do what’s next.
The map is incredibly useful for bike riders. It has details not found on any map.
For instance, don’t ride Route 91.
It looks the same as the others but it’s a short cut to the seacoast for tradespeople; it handles much more traffic and most of it fast. For the bike it’s a transitional road just as is Route 1 from Lewis to Cutts.
Route 236 is the designated bike road and not fit for bike riding. It’s a major highway with speeds to match. Its sole attraction is wide shoulders that bureaucrats embrace; hence its designation.
The map is 11" x 17” open and folds down to 4" x 3" which fits easily into a shirt or pant pocket. (11 x 17cm) It’s on a water and tear resistant stock that refolds easily. Photos of what you’ll see along the way are on the reverse side along with a list of bike shops and miscellaneous information.
If someone handed me one of these and I didn’t know the good roads for bike riding I’d be thrilled and so will anyone that buys and uses one of these.
